What skills and qualifications do our Maintenance Techs need?

Traveling Maintenance Techs must have 5 or more years of experience in maintenance operations. A technical degree or certification in a related mechanical field is preferred.

You'll need to be comfortable stepping into various manufacturing environments and be physically able to handle the physical nature of the job for 12-hour shifts. 

Strong understanding of workplace safety regulations and the ability to work safely around heavy machinery and hazardous materials is a must.

The skills needed for Maintenance Techs will vary by industry and plant, but typically include: 

  • Proficiency in repairing and maintaining mechanical systems such as conveyors, pumps, and hydraulic equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and manuals.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, including wiring, circuits, and motor controls.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical components.
  • Experience in conducting regular inspections and preventive maintenance to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Strong diagnostic skills to quickly identify and resolve issues in machinery and equipment.
  • Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) for automation and control systems.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for tracking maintenance activities and inventory.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments.
